ok guys i want to get a manual transmission into my auto 89 Iroc Z, but have no idea where to start. What transmission is it that i need as well as other things necessary for the job?

do a search for t56 swap, that'll get you started. If you have any other specific questions, ask away. Not trying to be rude, but this comes up at leats twice a month.

Does anyone have any information on (a) where to look for a used t56 (b) estimate on how much i will be looking at for the complete transition.

Most guys spend around 2 grand on a 6-speed swap. It can be done for less, but that's the general estimate. I spent slightly over $2000 and got a brand new SPEC clutch, B&M Ripper shifter, and new clutch hydros from GM. I could have saved around $500 going with used stock pieces.
