Suggestions on a spark plug gap ???

i know the stock gap is supposed to be .035, but i wanted to know if i can go higher with the few ignition mods i've done. i put a new accel cap and rotor, accel 8 mm spark plugs, and a 53,000v hypertech coil... what would be a good gap to put my plugs at to get the most power out of my setup? thanks guys

45 sounds good since you have a coil that is not OEM.

would .050 be too much? and how much power do you think i'd get from .045 or .050? i was thinking probably 3-5 hp, and good spark at the end of rpm range... but im no einstein... thats why i came here for advice lol

I left mine at 35 when I did a tuneup (bosche plats, wires, MSD 6A and coil). If it is supposed to be more... oh well, theres NO WAY Im redoing it, unless the motor blows up.

.045 is what I always set mine at if using a factory HEI type ignition on a N/A motor. The gap will open up slightly as the plugs get some miles on them and the center electrode wears down.

.065 was used in some GM motors but that was typically low compression smogger motors that didn't build much cylinder pressure or turn a lot of RPMs. And even then they were more prone to "eating" coils from time to time.

.45 is factory and with your coil you could go as far as .50 ,but would have to recap more often. If you are running a multi spark unit (ie. MSD,Jacobs, etc.) then you could go .60 -.65 and be good.

My plugs are easy. I can change them in half an hour with nothing but a spark plug socket and a 5/8" wrench. Then again, I have headers and no smog equipment.....

Anyway, back to the point....I gap mine at .050 with an Accel Supercoil (coil-in-cap HEI setup,) Accel 8mm wires, Accel module, and Accel cap and rotor. I've been running it that way for a year or so with no problems (other than one fried GP Sorensen POS module....but hey I've fried a few of them on bone stock engines.)
