stupid question, spark plugs
stupid question, spark plugs
When i first bought my car i put NGK plugs in the car. Ran good.
Switched over to delco's have changed my delco plugs a couple times, honestly dont think my car runs as well.
Just bought some BOSCH platinum plugs just the basic ones not the platinum2 things with the double sided points on em, but my buddy says bosch are crap. I liked em just because theyre shorty plugs and i have headers.
Should i just stick the bosch plugs in my car or go switch them for some NGK's?

Re: stupid question, spark plugs
My dad only runs Bosche Platinum 4's in both is 302 Crown Vicky Interceptor, as well as his '01 Impala Interceptor. He said that when he changed out the original plugs to the Bosche Plat 4's, he could tell a bit of a difference in acceleration.
I know somebody else (cant think of who right now actually
) that also changed over from regular old plugs to the Plat 4's, and he as well says the vehicle runs much better.

Re: stupid question, spark plugs
Stay with the Delco's. Good ol' fashioned single electrode standard resistor type. You don't need platinum, uranium, unobtainium, etc etc.
And stay far far away from the Bosch stuff, especially the +4! I can't tell you how many of those I've thrown in the trash at work for rough idle and random misifire concerns...
NOTHING is better than OEM.
And if you want a little more power, cut back the electrode. TPIS has documented 5-7 HP gains just from this on TPI test engines.

Re: stupid question, spark plugs
sorry bro dont recall that.
Never tried em. Although I DID try split fires once and they blew hardcore. Never had a plug make such a horrible difference that was insanely noticeable.

Re: stupid question, spark plugs
i run NGK's, have treated me very well over the yeras...my dad has been running NGK's for years on his boat with twin 454's and we've never had a problem with them...very reliable....the other ones like bosch is all brainwash, and its mostly all in your head if you feel a difference....and if you did seriously feel a difference it was probbaly because you had crappy old plugs that would barely ignite the air fuel mixture, and the new plugs ignite it all...but then again, a nice set of any plugs could do that...
Re: stupid question, spark plugs
I've always had good luck with regular bosch platinums. Not the 2 or +4 ones. Although, if I sell those at work I get a small commission.
I had heard at one point that the +4 ones could shroud the spark? Anyone heard that?

Cut spark plug
A few things to note. First, plug life is shortened. But I change them at least once a year, and they're cheap. Second, a higher output coil is recommended, as well as a .035 gap for injected cars. My carbed car specs a .045 gap, I set mine to .040 with a Hypertech coil.

Re: stupid question, spark plugs
im very much a hardcore Delco person as i use their jacks, stands, and what ever else.i also try to replace anything on my car that is Delco with Delco.
BUT...... i useta use the R45TS plugs and they were ok, ran the AC2 (rapidfire) and in my stock motor they did a bit better then the 45s. i started having probs with my motor eating oil and a friend sugguested i run the bosch plats as they resist oil fouling better than a reg style plug.
i popped them in and the exaust note seemed a lil more crisp as was its running. the other day i had a mis after putting things back together from doing an oil pan gasket and rear main seal.
i popped in a set of AC2s i had sitting around to diagnose. after figuring out i had a weirded out wire and it was fixed i noticed te car was running richer and "muddy".
so i replaced them with a set of plat regulars and i could immediately tell a differance in the note and running.
