that i know of.....you can't put a 4" crank in a production block with out filling the block an inch or two with jacket filler. BUT....a 396 uses an offset ground 383 crank which comes out to 3.85 stroke. the rod length is your choice just remember that with long strokes and long rods you get really thin ring lands and low compression height. from what i've seen with all aspects being the same....the extra .1" stroke is only worth a couple hp and same for tq. although cool factor would be sweet in making a 1st gen small block SS396 or the same with a nova. i'd say either go a healthy 383 od 400....you'll spend less money and prolly be alot happier. not to mention it'd prolly last longer as well.
