Question Steering wheels swap in my '86?

I just bought an '86 Camaro and it has a steering wheel that is less than desirable. My car has a 305 carb. but is not a Z28 or anything. Can I swap another steering wheel into it? How much of a hassle is it? What wheels do I have to chose from? Thanks!

Should be pretty straight forward. I was parting a wrecked Z28 once and the guy that had it popped the wheel off for me in about 3 minutes. I have a nice 82-89 style Z28 3 spoke wheel if your interesed. I actually have like 4, but that one is decent. The others have chunks missing out of the leather. The leather on this one is like turned from overgripping. But its clean and straight. Anyways, best of look. I hate those wheels with the big square button and the dinky little spokes off to the sides. FUGGLY!

Every steering wheel manufacturer in the world makes an adapter kit to use their wheels on your car. Your car has the same mount as every GM from the 60s or even farther back.

Grant, Sparco, Momo, Lecarra, whatever. You can also mount a Z28 wheel if that's the style you like.

Is there an on-line guide or anything to do this swap? 3rd gen F-cars are completely new to me.

all you need is a grant steering wheel and adapter and a steering wheel puller that you can get from AutoZone and rent it

all of this will only take you 1-2 hours if you take your time and drink some beers

1. Pull off horn pad
2. Remove clip in front of bolt
3. Remove bolt
4. Use wheel puller to pull wheel
5. Install new wheel.

jims right but if you dont have a wheel puller you can always try to push against the firewall with your feet and pull the wheel. thats what i did when i changed mine.

FIY - 4th Gen steering wheels will fit into 3rd Gen cars with airbag - just make sure you get the airbag connector from the donor car - they made the connector smaller - then just splice the wires for the new connector into the 3rd Gen column (really good, maybe solder) and your set.

Trying to pull the wheel off isn't a good idea...if you somehow manage to get it to cut loose, it could very easily cost you some teeth. Rent a puller from a parts store, (some don't even charge you,) and do it the right way. It's faster, easier, and less bloody.
