Question Starting problems...

This has been going on for a while and I can't figure it out and now it's starting to really bother me. My car starts on the first try every time in the morning. And if I shut the car off after driving around and go into the store quickly and come out, it starts on the first try as well no problem. But if the car sits for a little while, and I go to start it up again, the engine still being warm, then on the first try it will just crank and crank. If I turn the key back and then try it again, it will usually work on the second try. Sometimes it takes a third shot.

The starter is new, the injectors have been checked, coil and wires are new and plugs have about 12,000KMs on them. The car runs awesome all other times, it's just the warm starts.

Any ideas?!?

Have you checked for corrosion around the battery connections? That happend to me once with my 86 trans am, it could be that or a bunch of things, plus wiring in camaros and trans ams is notorious for going bad

Yup, the battery terminals are fine. Is there any wiring in particular that I so be looking for?

Irocker, trust me on this one. I had the exact same problem and chased it for a long time. I too had my injectors cleaned and checked and the problem still persisted. Apperently I still had one that was leaking even though they checked out OK
This is how I fixed my hard starting condition which sounds identical to yours.
NEW INJECTORS! Yup, I bought a set of Accel 23# and after I got them in it now starts just like it is brand new.

Take my word for it. By the way you know who I am too (88IROCBOB on thirdgen).
See you at St. Thomas in the fall!!

Bob

Thanks Bob...if it's new injectors than I'll be really pissed since I had everything apart over the winter. I didn't really plan on doing it all again anytime soon. I may just have to put up with it then for now. I've been worried it's the fuel pump and that's one expensive repair that I don't want to do unless absolutely necessary.

Anyway, thanks and I look forward to seeing the new mods in the fall.

Wink

Fuel pump isn't that expensive. I bought the marlbaro high flow for like 150$ canadian. I did all the work myself. Mind you its not the quikest of fixes in the world, but its fun.

Ya fuel pumps aren't too expensive... however installing one is a GIGANTIC pain in the butt . And the labour charges WILL be high. Dropping that fuel tank is a bitch... I was looking at replacing mine with a fuel cell on another note.. anyway peace.
