Re: Starting Problem 90 Iroc

this is a heat soak problem for the soleniod of the starter. sometimes the starter gear will get stuck in the forward position. you can get a wrap for it that will shield the head from the starter from jegs or summit. Somthing like this

if it happens again, get under your car w/ a pry bar or something to whack the starter. hit the underside of the starter a couple times (not too hard) and the gear should pop back into place allowing you to start the car.

hope this helps

An easier way than wacking the starter, which I used to do all the time, is to put it in neutral and push the car backwards a little. Then start it. This puts the starter gear and the flywheel gear back in alignment.

I would just get a new starter to begin with, then get the heat wrap. They are 15$ after a core trade in at Autozone. That's what I did and I havent had an issue since.

Re: Starting Problem 90 Iroc

just put a new starter in, probably just worn out,
the bearing go and when starter get hot the internals can contact the case,
unless you got headers or something I wouldn't worry about heat wrap

oull the starter out, shake it, if you can hear something clunking around in there just get a new starter,

a starter off of an LT1 is a good upgrade its about half the size and weight,
tons of torque, plus they sound cool

Do those just bolt right in?

Re: Starting Problem 90 Iroc

yeah, I just put 1 in my brothers car,

stock starter didn't have enough torque to spin the motor,

if you get long tubes you got to run one, or a mini starter, but LT1 starter is cheaper and about the same

Sweet, I'll remember that if mine ever craps out again, because that stock one is a pita to get in without moving the Y-pipe out of the way.
