I got the GM High Torque one because I wanted a little more power to work with the engine since I have a 11:1 Compression Ratio

Use the Mini-Starter with headers and prevent any heat soak problems with a standard size starter.

I too reccomend a mini-starter. You'd probably have clearance problems with a regular one and the headers.

I think it was under $200. It was a mini and it could be rotated to chear headers.

If you are using a 168 tooth flex plate the original 305 starter will not work. Stock was 153 tooth. Starter bolt holes will not allow starter gear to be aligned in the correct postion. I went with a 168 tooth on my 89(383) buildup and got a Summit "Protorque" mini starter. Adjustable for 153 or 168 tooth, reasonable price at $147.

I believe that mine works on both flexplates but will have to confirm that if needed. I have the 168 right now.

My GMPP ministarter will fit both flywheel sizes.

I've never heard of ANYBODY running one, but I don't think I ever specifically read that it doesn't work. I just think that if it did, somebody would be using it and I'd know about it. You may want to do a search on thirdgen.org.

Heat soak was a major problem for me when I installed my headers. Mini is the way to go, much more versatile.

Don't have that problem of heat soak with my starter. Also, I like the fact that it is a high torque (gear reduction) one. This is because I have a 10.8:1 compression.
