starter the 350 for the first time...

hey, finally got the starter all sorted out. now when i turn over the key the starter motor turns and the engine is spinning... but the electrical to the dash isn;t working and the motor is not turning on.. is this related?? from the starter motor which wires comes to the dash for power to the panel?? i look in the book.. no such luck.. 1986 camaro put in a new 350 motor its carbed..

what kind of distributor are you using? what type

also how did you wire up the distributor?

ac delco - remy is what it has on it. its not a electronic distributor. would that cause the tach and all the gauges not to show??

no that wouldn't affect the gauges but you said it wouldn't start

I guess you know already but there's a wire somewhere that's not connected. Chevy put junctions on some firewalls that ran a hot wire to the fuse box, some hot wires come off of the alternator and some off of the starter. You are looking for a red wire that is not hooked up probably in the engine compartment somewhere.

www.autozone.com has wiring diagrams but you probably need to just look around for a few minutes to find the wire that's not hooked up

check all of your fuses also just to eliminate that as a possibility

wow... i forgot the mention that when i was putting the starter in. 1 single wire from the positive was not attached... it wasn;t meant to be put back. i shorted out the starter underneather. im going to check the fuse right now.. THANKS soo much

ok perfect the starter and the gauges are now working.. the fuse was blown.. thanks!!
