Think about it this way -- knowing they could crush it would you do something illegial with your $30k "investment"? That's the point of the law. That is why cigarettes taxes are high, why drunken driving tickets are so expensive. They are trying to discourage that type of behavior.

Besides street racing is silly, dangerous, and only serves to prove who has the smallest "equipment". If you want to race, take it to the track.

so you want to tell me that you have NEVER ONCE in your life gotten into a street race? because thats the way your coming off. If its done right, street racing can be as safe as the track. We have a secluded area, no traffic, no people, nothing. Weve sat there for 5 hours one night and not seen another car. Now having said that, I do go to the track MOST of the time, but others the street is where its at.

<Not trying to be a jerk> But damn, talk about welcome to last year........this is video from LAST summer, like late August maybe.......I lived there (Sun Valley) then and was around for that when it actually happened.......it was right after 2 kids died and a third was severely injured in a street race about 4 blocks from my house...............just too easy to go to a track and not worry about getting randomly killed or losing your ride.

wonderful. give them nothing to lose. so when those cops come, they KNOW they might as well run for it. that's such a better idea. we need more high speed chases, anyway. instead of some kid losing their life eating a pole, let them lose control on the highway trying to run from the cops and roll into a few cars. great idea, lawmakers.

Going to prison for the rest of your life or the death penalty = nothing to lose..........losing your car because you are an idiot and run from the cops AFTER street racing = MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, no. I have not street raced. I have nothing to prove. I drive my IROC becasue I like driving it, not because I need to be better than someone. While you seem to be doing it safer than most of the idiots who race down residential street or populated highways in "pick up" races it is still rather silly.

Re: so glad i dont live in LA

My biggest problem with street racing is not with me personally, but with the other guy who may be tanked up on booze or God knows what else and in the commission of a street race kills himself or someone else. I admit it I've street raced and was lucky I know these third gens can be deadly fast on the top end, mine 150+. (per GPS). It has been years since I've done it because of the risk. Go to a track. I have other reasons I would not live in California.

That laws unconstitutional, its cruel and unusual punishment. If you have a half decent lawyer, you won't lose your car.

I definitely agree with that. But look at how screwed up the rest of the so called "Golden State" is. Why not a hefty fine and loss of driving privelage. That is what keeps many at bay.

Re: so glad i dont live in LA

go to the blinkin track.or if your in the golden state there are plenty of deserted stretches of road to go fast on.or take another car with you on a road trip and race eachother when it's safe.ya knaow, like when your going from california to maybe texas and theres all that deserted road.but if your stupid enought to race knowing that fact that you could lose control and kill someone then you deserve to have your car smashed.****,they should even make you pay part of your income to the family for the rest of your life.street raceing is a bad idea.go to the track.

Funny how no "half decent" lawyers have stepped up and stopped this from happening as of yet and it has been going on for almost a year now......Look up the United States Consititution's defintion of "cruel and unusual punishment" and you will see how far off base you are by saying that.
