So besides a 305, What else fits a 700R4 Trans?
Re: So besides a 305, What else fits a 700R4 Trans?
I thought all 3rd gen engines were hooked up to the 700R4. Everything from the 2.8 to the 5.7. There was a 3 speed auto in early 3rd gens, but I'm pretty sure the majority of 3rd gens with autos were 700r4s.

the 700 is the tranny, and GM uses it in everything. They are common in trucks, and the 4th gen camaros use a 4l60E which is basically the exact same thing as the 700
Re: So besides a 305, What else fits a 700R4 Trans?
The 3.1 and 2.8 700R4's and the 3.8 4L60E don't bolt up to a SBC. different bellhousing pattern.
LS1 tranny's don't bolt up anything besides a GenIII block.
The 4.3 V6 uses the sbc bellhousing pattern, so tranny's from those will work on any sbc or LT1.
The flexplate you use is determined by the rear seal type of the engine, the starter type, and the type of tranny. Torque Converter has to match the tranny and the flexplate.

Well technically you can bolt a BOP pattern transmission upto a small block Chevy too. Downside is only two bolts line up. I don't think any 3.8s were ever mated to a 3.8 from the factory though. They came bolted to Th2004Rs.
