Okay I have a 1985 z-28. DO you think a 400 smallblock would work out well? It is gunna be a daily driver but I wnat it to rip. I am planning on going 400 smallblock with headers going into a 3" duel exhaust setup. I also am planning on putting a ford 9 inch in. I also want to lower the front end 1 inch and redo the suspension. THen I want to raise the rear 1" and redo the suspension. WIll this setup work? How much do you think it will cost? How much do you think a smallblock 400 can put out with a good cam, ported heads, and some lighter parts? Can you see any problems coming up.

 

I can't tell you how much it will cost because I'm trying to build mine at this point. No money yet but I'm workin on it. I already have the block. I've been told that (depending on matching parts) it can make around 4-500HP but it will make lots of torque (600ft/lbs+). This would require your rearend build up and you would definately need to strengthen that tranny up. Your setup sounds good. Make sure you have good intake and carb to bring the most out of the engine. You definately will need buy a new radiator and maybe fans to keep it cool.

Cooling is going to be your biggest problem. New rad and such is a must. Make sure your tranny is in good shape and make sure that you have a VERY good tranny cooler. Not sure what kind of heads you want to use so it's hard to say for sure what you might need and might not need.

 

Also remember to get the steam holes drilled in the heads. My friend had a 400 and didnt have it done, needless to say he's rebuilding it now.

 

I already have a 3 core with my 305 (the origional rad cracked) Also I just started building a massive scoop (looks ****en mean) it goes from the inside of the headlights (I cut along the line in the hood and it is 2.5" high on the outside and 3" high in the middle. It still needs some sheet metal in the sides and I am addin a back peice probably (gunn cut the back off another camaro to make a nice cowl).
