The Chevrolet smallblocks (283,305,327,350,383,400) are pretty thoroughly interchangable. They do NOT interchange with the BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) line of engines. They also don't interchange with Caddillac specific (i.e. 4.9l Northstar) engines. The BOP engines should interchange with each other...Caddy motors are on their own which is one reason parts are so expensive.

262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, and 400 are the OEM SBC offerings.

There is no such thing as a big or small block Pontiac, they are just Pontiac engines (unless you count the 301, which is the scourge of GM engines), the die hard Pontiac guys get upset if you call them big or small blocks.

Oh and you can bolt a BOP tranny to a SBC. Only two bolts line up, but I have done it on Demo Derby and Figure 8 cars (NOT RECOMMENDED).

Yeah yeah so I was in a hurry.....how many 267's do you see these days anyway? Even if the 383 isn't a factory combo, it's getting to be more common than the 307's and 265's and such.

Im aware of the pontiac mid block deal, and yes I do get pissed when peple tell me they have a BB 400 (And its not a mopar)

But what about the other two BOP makes, someone was saying that the 403 is a small block and 455 is a big block in olds. Do buick and olds use diferent sized blocks.
