slp cold air

my car is a 1990 5.7L and you can check the hyperlink for more info. Its virtually stock right now and is actually just getting a full tune up (cap rotor, plugs, filters, fluids) and i need to replace the stock air filters that are on the car. Am on a limited budget of about a thousand (canadian) right now but plan to do just about everything to the car over time and will be putting a lot into her as i make money over the summer time. Was wondering if for now i should just stick to the stock air setup and get new filters or if slp's cold air intake system is worth the $299 right now or if not what do you think i should tackle first as far as aftermarket parts go? it already has slp headers on it and a bunch of tranny stuff.

It is a fantastic system, you get what you pay for. The quality is so good you could easily install it yourself at home with simple hand tools. Everyone has to start somewhere and this is a fantastic first part. Be prepared to deal with SLP's attitude problem when you order it. I personally stand by their CAI systems but don't think anything else they make is worth the money. Besides TPI specialties is the best aftermarket company available for F-bodies and vettes. They race what they sell on their own racecar, and they will bend over backwards to answer any questions you have, plus they have a fantastic web site with their entire catalog available to view online, check them out.

I had that setup and I really liked it, wish I hadn't traded it when I got my LT1 motor.
Here is a picture of it installed on my car,

You WILL need to relocate the battery to the rear of the car though. A lot of people do this anyways for better weight transfer, but you will probably have to wire up a battery cutoff switch on the back of your car to be able to run at the drag strips.
