You hit that right on. Notice all the V6 Mustangs and Camaros around? They are EVERYWHERE. It makes the GT, Cobra, Z28, SS, TransAM, even the Firehawks look retarded and worthless.
And at the same time, it makes the V6 base models look "awesome".

Manufacturers are more concerned about pumping out vehicles and name recognization instead of heritage.

Exceptions: you dont really see any slow vettes, vipers, GT40s, etc.

i dont understand why people are so fond of the lt1 engine all it is is an l98 on crack and with a better intake. Whats the cost of an ss? Ummm assuming you have basic mechanical ability you could buy a short block 383 for 2500 with forged internals. Top notch heads is another grand, cam intake, springs and all the supporting pieces will probably run you around another 2500 -3500 thats like alternators and water pumps and a rad etc. So thats in the 6-7 grand range, expect to pay 9 if you cant put any of it together. Then you have the rest of your drive train. You could get something like a new t-56 6 speed from richmond for like 2 grand and that should hold your power (oh by the way with the engine combo you could make you could easily have a streetable 500+ hp care that will get you close to 10's) or if you went nuts for like 10 grand you could get a jericho and that transmission will hold up to nascar style abuse. And youre still under 20 grand before taxes....spend 2 grand on a bullet proof rear end. Maybe another 2-3 grand on suspension stuff, sfc's, tires etc. and you have a most likely low 11's 500 hp third gen.....would make an ls1 look like a grannie grocery getter and you could stomp the hell out of vipers and Z06's and probably a lot of ferrari's. All for probably just a little more then the ls1 but the beauty of it is you can do it whenever you have cash on the third gen and build it up slowly. I'd just stick with the third gen because of the never ending possibilities and the fact that 4th gens look like space ships. Not a fan.

EDIT: Something else i just thought of. The next toy i get (which wont be for a very long time because im 17 ) is going to be a C4 corvette. If you want something that goes fast and handles like a bat out of hell you can buy a C4 (1983-1992 i believe...?) for under 10 grand in pretty good shape. My friends dad has a C4 that runs consistent 9.7's in the quarter and the craziest thing is its 100% street legal. Those cars are a good toy to mess around with, i love the look of em, and they can be had for a reasonable price, just another chevy option.
