Ideal late model F-car to me is a 3rd gen Formula or Iroc(post 87 on both, or 91-92 Z or B4C) with either LT1/LT4 or an LS1/LS6 with T-56 and some good suspension goodies and a 4th gen interior...Best of both worlds...Great handling Muscle car with an up to date powertrain, and the best looking of the 82 and ups, IMHO...

Good luck messing with your timing if you put a distributor on your LT1. You'll probably have to pull the motor every time the timing needs changed, as the dist will pratically be under your dash. Why don't you look into the DynaSpark replacement, or switch to the LS1 coil packs?

youd probably have better luck asking specific questions over on the lt1 board, or doing a search for that type of info. i know the opti-spark and ls1 coil packs are pretty hot topics over there.

i think you should keep the car and just get the bugs worked out of it. no matter what car you get its always gonna require too much upkeep, even brand new cars can be a pain sometimes. besides the lt1 cars arent worth anymore than a 3rd gen now anyways, everybody wants an ls1 car. as long as you drive some form of fbod its cool with us.

later,

If you want to convert to the LS1 coil packs, you're going to need an LTCC box which you can get from Bob Bailey ($400) plus 8 LS1 coil packs ($35-$50/ea. brand new or get them used for alot cheaper). Also, you'll need some way to mount the coils and some new, shorter plug wires (I'm waiting for Bob to release his brackets for mounting the coils on the valve covers before I order my LTCC). You don't totally eliminate the Opti, you still have to use it for the low res cam position signal so the car can be run in sequential injection mode. But, since you take the high side of the ignition out of the Opti, they seem to last longer.

OF COURSE you should sell the 4th gen for a 3rd. Reasons being that the third gens look sooo much meaner not all space ship like. Not to mention you could experience the wonder of working on a car where half the engine isnt buried under the dash

just FYI you keep talking about an LT1 vs a TPI which really doesnt make much sense. You really mean an lt1 vs an l98, the tpi is just the intake that is on the l98 engine. As far as the difference they are basically the exact same motor except the lt1 engine has a better intake on it and its on crack (reverse cooling ) other then that the engines arent too different.

I like third gens, but I would never get rid of a 4th gen for one. I would keep the 4th gen and mod it.

Then why would it be a "mod"? You do know that "mod" comes from the word modification, which means a change from a previous state?

Anyway, back to the topic at hand... do whatever you want man. I guess you could always do a 3rd gen and swap all 4th gen stuff in, so it basically comes down to whatever you like best as far as appearance.
