should I put a cam in...

Thanks to Summit's discount table, I'm now the proud owner of a SLP 51002 cam. duration 206/212 lift .480/.487. I was thinking about throwing this into my L98, since it's still out of my car. I've got 2.73's, no torque converter, and those stock L98 heads which we all know breathe like a kid with one lung. How much of a dog is my car going to run like before i can get some mods, or even tune my ECM?

I'd do the intakes and insert the cam. Intakes are the biggest choke point on the L98

Is that even bigger than stock?

If you're talking about lift, stock on my L98 is .413/.428. That SLP cam is pretty much as big as I can go without having to get new parts like lifters.

If you're talking about duration, then on my stock cam it's 202/207.

Cam lift has no bearing on when you should buy lifters.

But it DOES have a direct bearing upon whether or not your stock valve springs and heads can handle that much lift.

They can't!

Your L98 heads can only cope with .460 or so for maximum lift so that cam is a paper weight until you address this issue

I am a cheap bastard. Therefore, I chose to buy new lifters when I upgrade a cam. I try do do what I can to avoid having to tear down the engine again and possibly have engine damage.
