should i have called BS on this LT1 swap?

i took a trip down my road for a lil 5.0 hellraisin....and i get flagged over by a guy at a mailbox...so i pull over and we talk about 3rd gens

id noticed he had a red V6 3rd gen

he said it had a cammed 4 bolt LT1 in it, but he couldnt pop the hood cuz the latch brooke

anyways, i ask ihm to fire it up, and he did...had stock V6 exhaust and honestly sounded like a stocker except for the loopey idle

anyways, i had him take me down the road in it...did a 1st gear clutch dump and sure enough she brooke loose, then shifted to 2nd and no traction, and chirped 3rd (open rear, BAD wheel hop)...but when it caught trac it seemed like it didnt pull much more than my 305...BS or LT1?? ive never ridden in an LT1 car b4 so i dunno how they feel

cool guy tho, wanted me to do a brake stand in the road, i did so and left a nice cloud of smoke

Well, did it sound carbed? If so, it wasn't an LT1. Also, did both wheels break loose, or just one? My 305 can burn a tire also, and it's automatic, so if it was stick, I'm sure i could dump the clutch too and raise hell on the tire. If it was indeed a Lt1, you should have noticed the power over your 305. Either that, or his LT1 was sick. Personally, I think he was B.S'ing you. And if his hood latch broke, why couldn't he just grab it with vise grips and pull the cable.

Well, depending on what you ahve done to your 305.. unless you have 275+ hp, and 300+ lb's, you would DEFFENINTLY see a difference in that LT1 against your 305.

85_305, can ur 305 burn 2nd gear (clutch dump 1st, slam 2nd)?

the LG4 isnt much faster than the 2.8 so this would give me an idea

Don't be so quick to judge. My wifes Third gen is a carbed 1995 lt-1

Really? I've never seen a 2.8 F-Body run 14.94 @ 92mph. that is what my 86 Trans Am with the LG4 ran.

Also, on an LT1, you don't need to dump the clutch to smoke the tires, you can go from a slow roll to about 30mph in 1st and just mash the gas and it will start smoking up the tires. Dumping the clutch from a stop would result in you just sitting there roasting the tires.

I agree w/ Zepher. 2.8's aint got shee-it on the LG4. And I am sure if I tried I can burn second gear. I would go and try it now, but the engine is half-out of the car. Sorry, no video proof from me. Until next summer that is!
And yes, even w/ all the mods you ahve, the LT1 should STILL show you a considerably good time over your LG4

My bad I guess. I just always thought what made an Lt1 was mainly the fuel injection system on it.

Re: should i have called BS on this LT1 swap?

I also have to say, LT1 should be the itake. Sure you could have taken a block that used an LT1 intake and put a carb on it. But I'm almost positive LT1 doesnt have much to do with the block, except that probably only certain blocks can run it because of, I could be wrong here, water flow, distributer placement? etc.

EDIT: sorry i was thinking LS-1 I think. upon some minor research there is an LT1 block it seems, but it wouldnt surprise me if there is another block that is pretty much identical. It is pretty much an iron cast 350 as far as i can tell.

As far as I can tell LT1s are iron with aluminum heads. all LS1s are Aluminum blocks.

Even if they were aluminum, they would still be "cast". This is the manufacturing process.

But Yes, an LT1 block is cast iron.
