Well, did it sound carbed
Wow I've never been able to listen to a car and say it sounded carbed or fuel injected. Is this really possible? I don' think it is!!!

Yes, you can most of the time. A carbed engine usually has more of a rough sound to it, not a smooth quiet idle. Especially when Cold. Next time you start a carbed engine, listen to it. Then go start up a EFI engine.

I just want to say I disagree. I think you can get almost any sound out of any car. I have a friend that owns a 03 Mustang that sounds much more like a Chevy than a Mustang 5.0. There are so many variables in sound that it is impossible to tell. Look at the new Neons without any mufflers. They sure dnt sound like your typical ricer.

Well, I agree with that too. However I'm basing my opinion on my personal vehicles. My beat up 83 Ram D150, and my Camaro sound way different then my 96 Dakota and 95 Intrepid.

An LT1 intake is just that. An intake that came on a LT1 motor. Just saying LT1 motor encompasses more than that though. Reverse cooling, optispark.... there's more to the LT1 than just the intake itself.
Not everything that went into it was great though. Optispark can be a PITA.

I'm suprised no one from the LT1 forum didn't jump in here to make some comments. There's more but I won't cover it now.

I can usually tell if it is carbed or not.. and then, after taking an educated guess as to what kind of carb it is, I continue to tell them it is running rich (well, if it is, of course). I can smell a rich running carb (or even FI) car from a mile away

No, the LT1'ers tend to hate us 3-gen'ers

The lt-1 block is not identical to a regular SBC as it is reverse flow. You cannot swap heads from either without some expensive work. The LT-1 block is cast iron and comes with either aluminum or cast iron heads.

Isn't it stupid to mix cast iron w/ aluminum? wont warpage occur from the indiferences in the metal? and the failure of hear transfer?

I dunno, but they've been slapping aluminum heads on blocks since at least the 60s I think, probably longer. Aluminum heads always have had problems with warping from overheating, but other than that, I'm not familiar with any problems.

How would you prevent alum. heads from overheating? what about alum. blocks; are they prone to overheat easily also?

aluminum disapates heat faster. and u have to get a aluminum head hell hot to warp it. im sure it has happend but i have never seen it. i know of engine temps thats have senn 250ish-260 and nothing beside over flow. also had a 24lbs radiator cap.

Only time you run into trouble mixing metals is in a stress application, more or less like steel bolts into aluminum heads. This can cause galling and locking of the threads.

Re: should i have called BS on this LT1 swap?

My bad I guess. I just always thought what made an Lt1 was mainly the fuel injection system on it.
there is alot more differences in the lt1 engine than say a l98. the whole engine was redesinged. the stock bottom end is alot stronger with better rods the heads flow and desipate heat better and have more compression the intake and injection is far better the cooling system is redesigned the water pump runs off the cam instead of a belt for better reliability, the ignition was redesigned to be more accurate(although sometimes the optis do fail) the rings stock are chromoly and pistons are different theres a alot of differences in the lt and standard 350 i guess that what makes them different engines.they both are good engines but in the name of performance i guess thats why i went lt1 in my thirdgen.

thats the opposite of why they use alum block and heads. it cools faster and is lighter.
