Shift Light Setting

I just put a tach in my car with a shift light. Where would be a good spot to set the light for the best time at the track? I heard tpi looses its power at like 4500, So I have it set at like 4700 right now, all my mods and specs are listed below besides 700R4 trans with a B&M mega shifter.
thanks!

I used to run mid 13's w/ my 92 shifting at 5300 1-2 and 5100 2-3.I would start at 5000 and go up from there to see if times improve.I had alittle more mods than you,but no cam.

at the stage youre at it get her hooked up to a dyno. Not only will you have the fun of getting dino numbers then youll have accurate info as to where your power band lies and you can set the shift point to exactly that.

The power band is aroud 45-4800 rpm's so I think you are set at a good starting point with 4700,and work from there. You still have a learning curve getting used to the light so your in the ball park at 4700.

I've heard the same thing about TPI (4800rpm "wall"). I'd just try 4700 the first time out then mess with it until you get it exactly where it needs to be. Good luck and let us know the times!

the 4800 wall is not so much the tpi but just where the motor makes power. Before I did a cam in my l98 I would shift on the high side of 5000.5300 1-2 5100 2-3.Remember he has a cam in there.Maybe his times are not responding because his car is still shifting at factor specks. If I was him I would go to the track and start no less than 5000 and work up till my times fell.
