Serpentine Belt issue Please Help!!!
Serpentine Belt issue Please Help!!!
Hi,
Well I had my serpentine belt break last night. It has been at the shop all day. The Mechanic cannot figure out how to run the belt.
The issue is that the air pump was taken out by the previous owner. Also the tentioner siezed up which caused the problem in the first place. The new one came in and fell apart!
So now my mechanic is basically scratching his head and saying well the belt cannot run this way and it has contact with itself which may cause it to brake. Is this guy lacking knowledge?
I really need a diagram showing how the belt can be run from each pully without using the air pump in the process. Can anyone help me find a diagram to bring to this guy to get it figured out?

Re: Serpentine Belt issue Please Help!!!
the stock serpentine should work without the airpump. the routing is different however. I don't have a diagram but if you route the belt so ribbed side is against the ribbed pulleys and the smooth side is against the smooth pulleys it becomes rather obvious. I went to the trouble of finding the air pump delete pulley to find i didn't need it.

Over A/C, under tensioner, over alternator, around power steering, up over water pump, back down around crank, and back to A/C. You must use a longer belt. Dayco 968K6 or equivalent. 96.8 inch 6 rib belt.

Yeah, follow the advice in the link posted by Kwiksilver. That's how I did my serp. setup when I removed my AIR pump. In fact, it's the only way you can do it.
My only issue was that the 96.8" belt was maybe just a SMIDGE too long. If they make one that is like 96.5" you might try that instead.
Also, the Dayco part number in the article is outdated and you will need to cross reference it to the new number scheme or just look it up by length/# ribs.
