I hear all the time that Speed density is better then MAF.
What I find interesting is that when Chevy switched to SD, Ford switched from SD to MAF.
Stock--can it possibley make a diffeence?
I understand one is better for over a certain hp level when modifying...but that isn't what I want to know.

One is not better than the other. Maf is more forgiving to small mods such as porting, and maybe small cam changes. It is more expensive though, because the MAF sensor costs a lot. Many people switch to SD because they want to work on their tuning/PROM burning skills.
Bottom line is if you have MAF, it works, and you dont do any of you own computer work, leave it alone.

Speed Density has easier tables to work with when doing modifications to the chip. MAF is more forgiving when modding, i.e. it responds/compensates better on its own for heavy modifications. For instance: I have a bigger cam, Holley Stealth Ram, headers, gears, convertor on my car and I am running a lightly modified chip.
The major difference between the 2 is that SD is cheaper if a major part fail like the MAP sensor. If a MAF sensor fails, its literally ~$300 for a new one.
All in all, over on thirdgen.org's DIY chip burning section, ski_dwn_it has proven that a finely tuned MAF car will run in the 10's. There really are NO benefits of doing the swap other than price of a SD setup as opposed to buying a new MAF sensor.

I agree with the 2 posts above. The only reason for MAP would be forced induction ie 2 or 3 bar map sensor. Superchargers will max out a MAF. Otherwise stick with what you have no real gain will be realized with either, just 2 diff. methods of doing the same thing.
