Rusted undercarage??
Rusted undercarage??
the guys at my local oil changing shop, said that my undercarage was too rusted to be put on the lift..... that doesnt sound like a good thing! what are some things i could do to fix this if theres any, and if not should i just paint my 83 z and sell it? thanks!
What all is rusted? If it's little parts, I might consider replacing them but if it's the whole undercarriage then sell it and get another F-body. How much do you think you could get for your car?

Well I just tore my 89 IROC down and it's gonna get a total resto and rebuild as far as the chassis and body go, the only thing I haven't found on the web so far is replacement floor panels, but I'm sure they are out there somewhere, and if not I know a real good Tin and Duct work guy that I will get him to bend me a floor up if I have to.
All I can tell ya is jack it up and put some stands under the A-arms and slide under with a small hammer and start rapping on the frame and floor and see where it is weak or real scabby looking.
Make sure they were trying to pick it up on the frame too, I know I had a guy destroy my "jack points" because he used a frame lift on it and not the frame member, the frame is way in on these cars and alot of guys are too lazy to try to get under it to get it, I know on the passanger side you have to go around or under the exhaust pipe to get to the frame, so alot of them will just grab it where the fender bolts on to the floor and that is wrong there is no support there, a local tire shop had to buy me a new ground effect because of that.

I have the exact same car man, an 83 z28 and my chassis is rusted all over too it just seems like surface rust on it tho. i was also worried about it like you are so i asked a few people i knew and they said the same thing, that it depends how bad it is. i would check it out. i think what im goin to do is sand of the rust and spray some rustoleum or something on it. i also need a paint job on mine too but i think im gonna try to hang onto my car.
a question i do have myself is... is my car going to literally fall apart while im driving?
i was just currious what engine do you have in yours? i have the 4bbl carburated 305

im going to check out the rust under there either tonight or tommorrow and see what i should do about it.
