Angry Rust in Rear is this a bad sign?

Last nite i was under the rear of the car twaking the height of my new muffler and I noticed that there was rust right behind the bumper where the actual bumper is (the frame) It looked pretty bad to me. I am going to take some pictures of it to show.

Should I replace this or can this just be treated? I am close to taking the car over to www.ziebart.com to get it anti rust coated but i dont know if this piece is replaceable instead....any thoughts?

I have the exact same problem on my 92 right now. Mine's pretty bad and i was trying to figure out if that was part of the frame itself or a peice that would be easily repairable. If anyone out there knows for sure, please post here. I dont want to mess with it until im sure of what it is.

I think I know where you mean? You can get to it from inside the hatch if you remove the rear quarter trim peice. Is it behind the drivers rear wheel? If so, I have rust in this same spot, and no where else. I have been told that water can get in via the fuel filler neck hole somehow, and it sits in the 'well' and rusts..

there is no point in getting it rust treated unless the paint was sprayed withing 90 days because oxidtion sets in after that all you doing is coating the rust and wasting your money. I have some spots on my floor boards when it gets bad i'll cut them out and weld in new ones.
