RPM Issue

Need help guys! My rpm is totally off. When I am in idle, it indicate that I am in 3500 rpm and when I start pressing the gas the rpm shoots all the way to red line. What is wrong with my car...

does the engine sound like its running the rpm's read on the tach?

my car drives really well. It is just my rpm. It is way off...

The return spring inside the tach is going bad. You need a tachometer head.

Sounds like it. ARe the gauges all advailable seperately? Also check the connections around the coil to make sure they are tight and no rust since I believe that is where the signal is coming from for the tach.
