its dense fog right now in northern California, but I still had to goto work, and thats when I noticed it, when I back out, of course, I put it into reverse, and theres no lights, like if I put it in half way, the lights come on, but if I just let it drop all the way down the 'shift' the lights turn off, let me try to show you



ok, heres the 5th and R shift points:

R (If I shift to here, no reverse lights)


Can someone help? I can't just stick it in half way into gear, as I have to hold it, or it will go all the way into gear, which means the lights turn off.

I had the same problem with my '91Z automatic, if the shifter was closer to park the lights would stay on.

I'm guessing its from wear that the sensor moves or wears off. I'm not sure.....

I don't have that problem with my 5speed now.

 

On the A4 there is a slide that moves when the shift lever moves. That is adjustable so there may be something like that for you to adjust.

 

On my t-5 the plug for the cable is loose so teh movement of the shifter will make the lights flash on then off agian... check that out if so get a new one or bend the pins a bit

 

How do I check it?
I havent really messed around with my tranny before, I have with an auto, but not a manual, I figure they are differant....
So what all should I check?
and how?
