Replacing a stud..... how hard is it?

Hey, I've got a stripped stuf on my 3rd gen and I need to replace it. It's a 10 bolt disc brake rear end. How hard is this going to be and what tools will I need? About how long will it take?

Thanks, Brandon

Eh, I had the same thing happen to me on my exhaust manifold. I hobbled her to my buddies shop and his dad tore it out with an air hammer - I believe thats what it was.

Re: Replacing a stud..... how hard is it?

I just recently done this to two studs on my car. It was the front passenger wheel though. I'd assume that is going to be basically the same to do the rear. I thought it was rather easy and i never work on my car or anyone elses. Of course you will need to take the wheel off, then the brake caliper, the take off the grease cap, pull the pin out of the nut, then unbolt the nut and slid the rotor off. All i did was lay it on the ground with the studs up and nocked them out with a hammer and then hammered them in from the backside. Then you just put it all back together like how it came off. The only tools that i had was a hammer, allen wrenches for the bolts of the caliper and a wrench for the bolt in the grease pit. I hope this helps you. It really isn't hard if i can do it.

on the rear, jack it up, pull the wheel, pull the caliper, slide the rotor off, then take a hammer and hit the bad stud, bigger the hammer and better the swing, the quicker it will come out, but it will come out, then put the new stud in from the rear, slide a few washers over the new stud, take a cheap type lugnut and put it on the stud with the flat side against the washers, just tighten it down, it will pull the stud in, stop when the stud seats, and then reinstall everything

Allright, I'm assuming I need to pull apart the rear drum brakes to do this right? Otherwise it's the same?

Yeah, I did it about a week ago. It was really easy. 4-5 wacks with a hammer and that thing poppped right out. Simply pulled the new one through with a lugnut and it was set to go.
