Question Replacement for a 350 turbo?

i think i took the tranny outta my 83 z28 and as far as i know it was a 350 turbo. i have a 3.73 limited slip rear-end so my gas mileage was hideous with the 3 speed. i was wondering what other transmissions i could consider swapping in there that would maybe be a 3 speed with OD. what are gear ratio's on a 700r4 and is that my best bet, also, will it just slide right into place without having to change anything? i want something that will still be snappy when i punch it, but will still give me decent gas mileage and top speed. any other transmissions that i could just drop into place?and i'd like to keep this as cheap as possible...when i bought my wallet they forgot to put the money in it...
thanks
Dustin

i would more than love to put in any kind of a stick, but i said cheap and easy... i'm 17 and a full time student who makes about $100 a week and i have bank payments and all that other stupid **** a teen has... i just took hte tranny out completely unexpectedly so i need a quick replacement to last me through the summer so i can save up to get a decent T-56 and have it put in. i don't think i want to try to swap to a stick right now becuase of the fact that i've never done any tranny work b4 so it would be all guessing on doing it. i just need a quick replacement that will be easy to replace and maybe get me a little better gas mileage.

was the trans the stock trans?

if yes, it was a 200C(looks the same as a 350

A 700R4 will bolt in, you need a shorter driveshaft(extremely plentyful in juck/salvage yards) a crossmember (a stock newer one will work with some new holes in you subframe) I am not sure if the torque arm mount or arm were different, if they were, you just need a newer one

did that trans you pulled have a 4 wire plug in the side?
if yes, plug it into the 700R4

the 700R4 has the lowest 1st gear ratio that I know of in an automatic, 3.0:1 IIRC, which will improve the feel when you take off

Hey,
If you end up swapping to a 700r4 I would be in need of your drive shaft and crossmember. I would swap you for my 700r4 crossmember and driveshaft. Because I just pulled a 700r4 out of my car and I am putting a turbo 350 in it. If you were to measure your driveshaft from center of u-joint to center of u-joint it should be 43" which is for the turbo 200. I have one that is 41" which is for the 700r4.

the tranny in my car was a 350 turbo, it was rebuilt not so long ago... but a friend of mine said it could be an automatic clutch belt or somethin, any idea what some symptoms of that would be? and how about a 400 turbo? whats the difference between that and a 350 turbo and would it just slide right into place? thanks for the help so far guys.

I think you mean a band not a belt.

The TH400 would just make your situation worse. Although they are stronger than a TH350 they eat more parasitic power than a TH350.

I would recommend the TH700R4 if you want overdrive.
