Removing transmission

How hard is it to take a tranny out? Its an auto 700R4 from a parts car we have. We are going to remove the tranny and then send it off to the junk yard. What exactly do you have to do and how long should it take? Thanks.

Re: Removing transmission

Remove distributor cap since you will need to angle the tranny to get the very top bolt of the bell housing.

Re: Removing transmission

Take engine out & the tranny comes out with it. then you unbolt the tranny from the engine & put the engine in the trunk.

Re: Removing transmission

cover the tail end of tranny once you remove the drive shaft. It will still leak fluid when you tilt/angle the tranny to get upper bolt on bell housing.

Re: Removing transmission

you could always get a yoke off a driveshaft and plug the tail of the tranny, i think they make plugs too

Re: Removing transmission

Thanks for the help guys Just got done dropping the tranny about an hour ago. It wasn't hard at all. The top bolts that connect the tranny to the engine were a pain though.

Talking Re: Removing transmission

Well congratulation to you. Now that the easy part is done, try installing one is a little difficult especially with just 1 person.

Re: Removing transmission

Yeah I can imagine how hard it would be to install it in a driveway, especially with just one person. That b*tch is heavy.

Re: Removing transmission

Thats why Removing the engine with it is so sweet when you want to put the engine back in you just hook up the tranny to it & use the cherry picker.
