Rear Suspension

I recently took my camaro to a local mechanic and he found that my whole entire rear suspension is shot. I already new all that stock parts where going to have to be replaced. Then he proceeded to tell me that bolting on the parts is taking the cheap way out, and in fact the parts should be welded. I have never heard of welding suspension parts. The car only has like 315hp to the wheels. I was just wondering if anybody has heard of Welding suspension parts?

lower control arms....bolt on
shocks....bolt on
panhard bar....bolt on
springs...they just sit there
torque arm....bolts to the rear, has a bushing in the front on the trans

Sounds like he is trying to squeeze some extra $$ out of you. The DIY market grows every day, so mechanics have to find ways to be sneaky and still keep you as a customer.

Re: Rear Suspension

Agreed I don't think I've ever heard of anything being bolted on other than SFC's. Definately tell us what parts he claims need to be repalced as well.

Re: Rear Suspension

Yep, sounds like they are trying to take a cheap shot with ya. I find it funny how some mechanics try to rip me off thinking im some oblivious sucker. Just laugh and walk away, there is more than likley somone near you who would love to flex their F-body knowledge and give it a look without the "mechanic bias".

Re: Rear Suspension

The guy before me installed those lakewood lift bars and the brakets that wraps around the axle broke. I am buying spohn relacation brakets and adjustable control arms. Are those lift bars bull**** cause it looks like a piece of crap to me.

Re: Rear Suspension

You'll be fine with spohn relocation brackets and control arms. Get rid of the lift bars.
