Rear Gear--> Speedo

The 6spd is going in Wednesday night. I'll wire the SGI-5 up and get it working correctly (hopefully!). In a couple weeks I'm doing 3.73's, will it just be a simple wiring adjustment (relating to the SGI-5) or a speedo gear or what? Thanks

When I swapped a T56 into my 84 Berlinetta I used the Dakota Digital calibration unit as well. My Berlinetta had a digital Speedometer & a separate VSS box under the dash,...... I cut the VSS box out of the system entirely and replaced it with the Dakota box. Remember to hook your Cruise control system to it as well ( if your car has cruise ). If I remember right the 3rd gen speedo needs 2000 pulses per mile and the cruise system uses 4000 pulses per mile.

The T56 does not have swappable speedo gears like the 3rd gen cars did and calibration is adjusted thru the Computer on 4th gen cars. I swapped to a 3.70 gear in my 3rd gen rear end and used an aftermarket speedo that allowed for speedometer calibration for gear swap and tire size changes.

The Dakota box converts the T56 signal to a signal the 3rd gen cars can use - but I do not think that it allows for small adjustments.

I Know this dosen't help much - but at least you know that swapping a speedo gear is not an option !

Thanks man. Are you sure it doesn't allow for small adjustments? I hope so! Maybe in the ECM, the chip? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

It DOES allow for small adjustmenst !!!!

I just looked over the user manual and read the adjustment procedure........ I was reading application #3.
(high speed signal on newer GM tranny's down to a low speed signal for speedo, cruise, or fuel injection.

When I installed mine I set it according to application #4 ( convert speedo signal to Aftermarket speedo's.)
