rear ends???
Lets see.
No aftermarket so that rules out 12 bolt or 9"
No Australian diff so that rules out the 9 bolt
All that's left is the f-body 10 bolt since no other diff will bolt in. The 90-92 is the best third gen diff since they came with 28 spline axles. The forth gen are identical except it's 2" wider on each side.

9 bolts are not "impossible" to find at all. I got mine for 100 bucks with only 60K miles on it and complete from disc to disc, had everything. I have seen them for less. I would say that the 3.45 disc rear 9-bolt would be hard to find. there is no shortage of 3.27 9-bolts out there. I think they were kinda the standard rear end of choice starting in 87 with only the 3.27 being offered for the autos and the 3.45 for the 5-speeds. Then in 88 they came out with 2.77 which could be had on any model. Kinda like the gm 2.73 gears that way, good for freeway economy, not really the best "performance" gear. These rears could be had al the way through 90 when I think the 10 bolt came back, but it still had the Australian PBR brakes on it. Hope that helps. Look around in the classifieds on Thirdgen.org or even ebay. You will be surprised at what you find

ok so i guess 90-92 would be my best bet right, theres nothing really wrong with mine just heard they were very weak also i want disc brakes. also, how do i know if its a posi or not and does it matter if it comes out of a manual or automatic???

Manual cars usually get a numerically higher rear ratio like say a 305TPI 5 speed will get a 3.45 gear ratio when a 305TPI same year, A4 will get 3.27. Thats about it as far as manual/auto difference. ANd the way you can tell it is posi is 2 fold.
One look for the tag on the diff that says service with approved limited slip fluid, or just spin one rotor and see if the other one moves too, the same direction of course.
