Rear end questions

86 Firebird. V8 car. Posi or not posi? Lower gears or higher gears.

8? Firebird. 4 cylinder car. Posi or nonposi? Lower gears or higher gears

What spline axles would be in these cars? What kind of brakes?

Not enough information given. Is the V8 a LG4, L69, LB9 or L98?

The 82-84 L4 cars either had 3.73, 3.42, 2.93, 3.08 or 3.23 depending on what model and what transmission was in it.

Look for the RPO code. G80 means posi.

28 spline axles were not available until 1990 so those will only be 26 spline.

Both cars automatics

I was told 4 cylinder cars would have numerically higher gears. Is this correct? But probably aren't equipt with posi.

Where would I look to find out rear end information and what motor is in the V8 car? Where most V8 cars equipt with posi?

Depends what applications youre trying to achieve. If its more your daily driver then something like like 3.23s or 3.73s and try to find an LT1 rearend that has the gears. And get one with posi if you want the extra traction off of the line.
