I know this isnt engine related,but mostly 3rd gen related. Ok i bought an 88 firebird as a parts car, and im wondering what rear end its got in it, its a v6 with a 5 speed. Other than yanking the rear end out and counting how can I tell what gears it has? oh yeah and it doesnt run so i cant drive it to find out.

 

There should be a RPO parts code sticker, either in the center console or the locking compartment of the hatch. And also a code etched into the pass.side axle tube facing forward about mid-ways.
EX.= "GU4"
Then you can look it up several places online.

 

Only rear for that car was a 10-bolt 3:42. Also it an open rear with no limited slip (RPO G80) which was a option and Dealers did not order it on base models.
