Question Rattling Coming from Catalytic Converter Area I Believe...

Hi everyone, I haven't taken out the z28 inawhile since its been cold over here in jersey but today it was in the 60's so I took her out and all of sudden I am hearing a horrible rattling noise which seems from looking at it that is coming from my catalytic converters not sure which one. Sounds like the inner metal walls at least one of them broke and rattling like crazy. Thank God I didn't get pulled over!

Anyways now I have to figure out if thats the problem or not any tips on doing this? Is this something I can change myself if it turns out its the cats? Any ideas on how much 2 new cats will run? I know I can hollow out the cats but I am affraid of making the car any louder currently I have a borla adjustable exhaust on the car with the plate fully open. Any recommendations on where to get cats etc?

Check the heat shield on top of the Cat. The welds may have broken and the shield is making the noise. A very common occurance.

You can get cats from just about anywhere, even Summit and Jegs. I recommend Magnaflow cats. Ask your local friends for a good muffler shop to install them.

If you dont have a lift and a welder and experience, then you'll need to visit a muffler shop, yes.
