Question Which is a quieter muffler?

On a single 3" in/out setup.Which will be quieter?I know the flow ratings..just worried about sound level!

Dynomax Ultra Flow welded #17233 with a 20" case length (Glass-wrap perforated tube)

or

Hooker Areo Chamber #21505 with a 14" case length (Chambered)

Case length says Dynomax to me..but...any real world experiences?

Can't say anything about the Dynomax, but a friend had a Hooker catback with headers and no cat....It sounded like a Flowmaster catback and stock manifold & cat while driving around the city.

I quite like the Hooker exhaust. Stock to near stock on normal driving. Opens up when you get on it.

Re: Which is a quieter muffler?

hooker will be quieter...hooker has one of the quietest catbacks, but they get loud at WOT like usual....the dynomax is a straight through design, both flow very well....they are both pretty equally matched....i'd get the ultraflo tho, i hear it sounds nice as hell...i think i'm gonna get a couple to replace my spintechs...

Re: Which is a quieter muffler?

I have a 3" dynomax catback setup. I got the largest 3" in dual out muffler i could find. Why? Because larger means quieter. Study done back in the 80's about reducing exhaust noise yet getting max flow unrestricted. I did some homwork on the subject.

Track Story: My buddies asked me if I was shifting at 4500 rpm when I went down the track, said it sounded like I was at cruise on the highway when I passed them. Ran a 13.5 apparently not much louder than highway speeds.

Re: Which is a quieter muffler?

Ultraflows are loud? I have 2 Hooker Aerochambers on my 454SS truck and think they're loud. Of course the exhaust exits under the box so it's just behind the cab and that doesn't help much either. If my exhaust went over the axle and exited at the back it probably wouldn't be so bad.
