Question for people who have done a t-56 swap.

Im looking for alluminum flywheel to do finish up converison. First off the engine is an 87' 305 TPI w/ 1 piece rear main seal. Will this Alluminum Flywheel from SLP work fine?

Any suggestions on clutches would help. thanx guys.

Yes, that flywheel will work. But, are you planning on drag racing much...launching?? The reason I ask is because a lot of people dont understand that aluminum flywheels actually hurt drag racing performance. Some people even go with a heavier flywheel, cause it helps retain its spinning inertia after the clutch is dumped, helping the car hop off the line better.

Thats a great flywheel for street or autocross (where you need close control of the rpm's) but as stated before, it'll hurt your launches just a little at the strip.

thanx guys, I just read about launching on my jeggs magazine. The car is intended for street and weekend drag racing. The flywheel link that i showed is a Billet Steel flywheel not an Aluminum(My mistake). Should i just go with a stock LT1 flywheel and save about 200 bucks?

I went with a stock LT1 flywheel because I spent my money on an aluminum one for the T5, then it broke.
But what about the drivetrain loss of a stock flywheel vs a lighter weight aluminum one? Wouldnt the aluminum flywheel be better?

On the street you won't notice the difference much at all. In my experience, the only people who really use aluminum flywheels are serious autocrossers. If it were me, I'd get a stock LT1 flywheel and spend the other $200 on a short throw shifter (love my Ripper).

No, I meant the T5 broke. And you cant use a T5 flywheel with a regular T56, you need the specific T56 flywheel. My dad went with the aftermarket T56 and used my flywheel on his car.
