question about leavin in computer

i might be switching my car to carb and i was wondering if i could just leave the computer in the car just for the torque converter lock-up to work. i personally dont see a problem but i was just wondering if some1 has done this before and what the result was. i know that since the comp. wont be gettin and input from any sensors that it will poop the golden BB,but that shouldnt effect the lock-up should it?

I left my computer in, and had no problems... though I was just converting from a computer-controlled carb over to a non-computer-controlled carb. Good luck.

check summit or jegs, they both sell a lock up kit to allow using a 700 trans without the PCM. Should make the swap nice and simple, at least for the transmission.

yea rudy, there was a thread about a month ago or so w/ 2 different wiring harnesses that u could install to lock up the converter on a non-computer controlled car fora 700R4. but it required taking the pan off and all that kinda stuff and im not into doin that...ill have too many other little projects on this thing during the swap than to worry about that stuff. ill just leave the computer in and if it doesnt work...then im guessing ill have to do it but if i can get away w/ not doing it...i am!

thanx again guys

i've done this conversion on my 3rd gen. yes you want to leave your computer in place. i don't believe that the lockup function will still work, because i didn't actually try it. i just automatically wired up pressure switch in order to trigger the lock-up. but, i don't think your stock guages will work if you junk the computer.

i can't remember exactly how it worked, but i tried to take out the ses light bulb in the dash and i seemed to remember that it cause the buzzer to go off. so, i put a burnt out bulb in and the buzzer quit. i don't know, i got rid of the light somehow.

the pressure switch for lockup is easy to do. there is a port on the passenger side of the tranny that is a pressure tap for the fourth gear hydraulic circuit. plumb a a 60 psi switch to this port, one wire going to ground and the other wire going to the correct wire in the four wire connector on the driverside of the tranny. you need to leave the other wires in place because they perform some other important function like removing lock-up when you apply the brakes. if you do not have a manual, i can look up the exact wire color that you need to tap into.

let me know if you have any more questions.
