Re: question 1982 camaro

Yes, becuase the HO 5.0 wasn't out in 82. In 82 the Crossfire 305 TBI was the top engine.

Re: question 1982 camaro

the 82 and 83 h/o z28s signified that they were equiped with crossfire injection which utulizes dual throttle bodies and a crossram style intake. A few z's were equiped with funtioning ram air flaps that opened in the middle of the hood at full throttle.

for more information on cars with this style of injection visit http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/ which is a wealth of information for anyone who owns a crossfire equiped car.

i would advise you to go with another stlye of injection if you plan on heavily modifying the car. cfi doest support the mods that a tpi setup will without spending alot on inproving the intake flow.

however if you just plan on driving it it is a very reliable setup. cfi gets bashed on here alot because it doesnt have the potential to support large hp increases becasue of the inferior intake design. just my 2 cents lol

Re: question 1982 camaro

What you could do is get a dual 4 barrel intake from like, edelbrock or something and toss on TBI adapter plates that way you could keep the dual TBI setup and have better intake flow.

Just an idea.

Also, I've been around alot of camaros and I've only seen one actual CFI car that was an 82' and one car with the hood described above with the ram flap. Looked like the flap was actually vacum actuated.

I thought that the Crossfire cars got a different badge than the "H.O." 5.0 4BBL cars with 190hp that were introduced in 83 (L69).

Re: question 1982 camaro

the cfi's had a special badge on the rear bumper that said "crossfire injection"
The hood "flaps" are operated by a solenoid that is somehow triggered by wot. you can actual rig it up to open manualy by running a switched hot lead to it lol. those edelbrock intakes are worth some serious money as are the offenhuaser intakes that fit the cfi system as none of them are in production and havent been for at least 5 years i believe. the modern alternative is a company that all the cfi guys go through and i beleve the site is www.x-ram.com

as i said before though, if you are wishing to make serious horse power in the 3rd gens go with a carb or the tpi setup unless you intend to spend some serious dough upgrading the intake system of the cfi. most do it just for the fun of it to say that it can be done, i say this having owned two cfi cars lol
