Go true duals:

Get Hooker Competition Long Tubes: $149.88 @ summit
Two mufflers that suit your needs
Tips that suit your liking

Take it to a shop that will fab it up for you, say about $150-300 depending on where you go. Buddy of mine got his H-pipe fitted to his chevelle for $160 from a place near me. All in all you are talking $500 for a full system, but will flow awesome, and compliment that SC nicely

Re: exhaust setup

1st - DON'T get flowmasters

2nd - true duals can be a pain and cost alot $$ to do on a thirdgen

3rd - If you do true duals get hooker max flows, flow tech warlocks or bullets

4th - if you go with a single muffler get borla, magnaflow or slp.

Listen to sound clips to see what you like best before you buy.

1st- why not flowmaster?,

2nd- true duals is a waste on a 3rd gen, considering full 3" almost flows the same as dual 2.5"

Re: exhaust setup

flowmasters might sound good for a while but then start to crap out and sound like sh*t, thats only for the 80 series they sell though. getting a 40 would be the best choice if you really want flowmaster.
also, does magnaflow even make a exhuast kit for a 3rd gen?

Re: exhaust setup

Something I'm working on right now...is 2, 2.5" down pipes into a 3" head pipe, into a 3" convertor and 3" intermediate pipe and positioning a 3" inlet/2 2.5" outlets muffler just in front of the rear axle. Fabbing 2, 2.5" tails up and over the axle exiting in stock locations with nice chrome tips.(on my '86 GTA)

I had an 80 series on my car right up until it rusted through the inlet pipe and started dragging on the ground. They will sound great for like 2 or 3 months, then the muffler will be broken in and the tone will change. Instead of the crisp sound it had before, it will be more like a droning background noise that only really sounds good under WOT.

just my experience with it. you may like how it sounds afterwards but it drove me nuts, if i could do it again i would go with Dynomax in a heartbeat.

Re: exhaust setup

True duals are nice but good luck on finding a shop that will take the time and know how necessary to do it right. If you do, you will pay for it.

I have a simple 3" mandrel setup to an 80 series Flow with no problems. I bought the mandrel I pipe from Summit for cheap. I have 1 3/4" SLPs to a cutout to the i pipe then the muffler of course with regular turn downs. Cheap but effective. I didn't gain much hp when I opened the cutout so either the exhaust flows well or is restricted before the cutout.

Re: exhaust setup

how bout a nice 3.5" mufflex setup. will outflow any 3" catback, and will flow comparable to a 2.5" duals setup.

for some rough numbers on flow capabilities here are the cross sectional sizes for various setups. obviously some physics of fluid dynamics plays a role, but it will give you the idea

single 3" pipe = 7.1 sq in
dual 2.5" pipe = 9.8 sq in....a 38% increase over the 3" single
dual 3" pipe = 14.1 sq in....a 44% increase over dual 2.5" pipes
single 3.5" pipe = 9.6 sq in...only 2% less than dual 2.5"

Re: exhaust setup

here is a shot to give you an idea of how to run the true duals if you go that route,

Running a 3.5" pipe is just too much pipe for an L98. If these motors made the power higher in the rpm band, ok I can see that, but unfortunetly they dont. A single 3" pipe is more than enough to handle anything below 350-400 hp, especially when you're making your power below 4500 rpms and the velocity of the exhaust isnt an inhibiting factor. In this case, bigger is not always better.

Re: exhaust setup

i have stock manifolds to a normal cat(as far as i can see) and 3 inch from there to a random muffler that came with the car with 2 3 inch outlets and 3 inch chrome tips.
