Putting in new floors

Have any of you guys replaced the floors on your thirdgen?

I've got a typical New York State car with bad floors. I can't tell if the rockers are bad as well because i haven't ripped out the interior yet. The car has been in my family for a long time, if it hadn't i'd just buy another one.

If you have, any pointers, or pictures?

Just knock out what rust you can, and cut the good metal into a square shape. Then fab up a piece of sheet metal to the shape of the hole. Weld into place, and most importantly, seal the area with a rustoleum type paint / rust deterrent to keep the bare metal from rusting over again.

If you have a junkyard near you you can also just cut the entire floor out of your car, and find a junked camaro with good floorpans and swap those over.

Even MORE important, get rid of what interior pieces you can that are made of cloth. Seats, carpet, etc. If you cant get them out of the car, cover them in a damp bath towel, or your interior WILL GO UP IN FLAMES! If you have ever used a welder then you know, but if you haven't, then this is not a joke, get rid of the fabric. Keep a bucket of water and a fire extinguisher with you just in case. A guy on Thirdgen.org just had a 13k thirdgen light up because of a faulty in line fuel filter. I would hate to have to read another story like his in the same week.

I'm just going to buy a set of floor pans and try to keep as much original metal as i can. My iroc has some rust in some challenging places, I.E. the bottom and side of the firewall. A lot of people say buy another one, but you never really know what you're getting. I'm a firm believer that you never know that you've got a rust free car until you've taken the interior out, and the ground effects off.
