What is this car we are working on? Speed Density? MAF? What engine? What are the 3 wire colors?

If it is a 90-92 350 or 305 TPI, I would suspect it is off the MAP sensor.

Sometimes the most obvious is the most overlooked.

its speed density. that 3 prong plug...yea that was the MAP sensor i forgot to put back on (doh!). thats all set....battery was dead, jumped it....idled to 3 grand, then down to 2500 and stayed there.

i've been told to check for vacuum leaks, and to check the tps and iac. any other ideas?

Get a piece of small vacuum line and hold one end to your ear and run the other end over all the seems of the runners especially around the bolts. You will hear a loud hiss and thats your leak. Usually the bottom row where the runners meet the base plate. I coat my gaskets with " Aviation Form-A-Gasket" then I bolt the whole intake together loosely and then tigten the lower and upper working from the middle out in small torque increments ...usually 5lbs at a time. Kinda time consuming but it works.

Oh. And make 110% sure the gaskets are correct and line up perfect cause my last leak was due to inncorrect gaskets....just slightly off line. Just a heads up.

I have just gone through the same high idle thing after swapping out my intake manifold. The culptrit was leaking runner gaskets, after taking it all back to pieces and replacing the gaskets the problem was fixed. Now my fuel pump has crapped out and I will have the pleasure of ripping out the tank to replace that!

Spray brake cleaner on all mating surfaces and if it jumps up in speed, there is your leak. Check the throttle blades and make sure they are closing all the way. It could be that you need to check your TPS voltage too. Should be around 0.54V. Do you have access to a scanner?
