Problems converting to turbo400
Problems converting to turbo400
well i had a turbo 350 in my car and with the stroker rebuild i'm putting in a turbo 400. well i already have another driveshaft to chop up and make work but i'm having a hell of a time with the crossmember. it bolts onto the tranny like 6 inches farther back than the turbo 350 did so it won't line up underneath the car with the bolt holes. what do i do?! i didn't really want to have to fabricate my own bracket for it but i guess it looks like i'm gonna have to. anyone who's done the conversion got any info they could share? thanks
Re: Problems converting to turbo400
well i guess nobody had that problem b4 or something so i ended up spending about 5 hours last night fabricating my own U-shaped bracket out of a 26x20 sheet of 1/4" steel so i think that problem is fixed. now i'm just wondering how long does my driveshaft need to be? i plan on using my old 350 short shaft and putting a 400 yoke on it but how much do i need to cut off of the 350 shaft in addition to cutting the yoke off? or how long the shaft has to be from weld to weld would be easiest i guess. any info shared would be appretiated ALOT! thanks.
Re: Problems converting to turbo400
Damn Im not sure man. The last D/S shortening I had to do was on my dads 71 Chevelle when we put a 700R4 in it when it used to have a turbo 350. I think we were able to use the same yoke but it needed to be shortened a few inches...so we just marked when the u-joint needed to be.
