problem w/eibach pro-kit
problem w/eibach pro-kit
just installed eibach pro kit on my 92 rs (beater) and the car sits 2-3" higher than before in the front back seems normal what did I do wrong? oh and yes it is a v8
Two things that come to mind. First: the OEM springs are (were) at least 10 years old. They tend to sag after so many years with all the weight. Two: you gotta allow the Eibachs to settle by driving the car. It allows the springs to settle into the proper height, rather than the height out of the box. JFYI.
no, while it's a good idea to change those for the quality of your ride in turning capacity it isn't necessary to compensate for the springs.
other things you might consider are the angle at which the coil is sitting: in other words where the tip of the top coil is pointing at can vary the ride height to a degree....typically for lowest point and it pointing towards the front.
also, are you sure they are sittin right? if they aren't in the proper groove even half an inch off it can cause an uneven lift.
my guess is it needs to settle; but if it's a few inches higher then there is something wrong.
why not measure the gap between the tire and the fender? also put the tire size this way others can compare with you.

I see something else, most Z's/IROCS came with 560lb front springs while the RS's and Coupe's had softer 380lb'ers. Now the Pro line springs are stiffer and the motor doesn't push them down as far plus the loss of ride height(or sag) but not a loss in tension.
For drag racing people prefer the softer springs with adjustable shocks, it promotes better weight transfer. If you want it lower take them and have them cut(with a saw)and the end re-flattened. Ofcourse if you love carving corners, keep those and if they don't settle(which I doubt)have them cut a couple of inches.
DON'T skimp on the shocks, they're probably the single most important parts of the suspension as far as ride, traction and handling.
A good shock with a good anti-roll bar and soft springs(380's) will suprise you! I've been in a few that rode good, took corners well but didn't float or roll heavy, and hooked up nicely!

I'm 99% sure it's one of the 2 following things:
You don't have the top of the spring sitting in the upper spring perch correctly or you don't have the bottom of the spring indexed right. 2-3 inches is a LOT to settle further indicating something's wrong. Mine settled about 1/4" to 1/2" after 3 months, that's it.

Click on the first link for my Iroc suspension rebuild and look at my pics and explanations and see if you can find out what you did wrong. I cover the top and bottom of the spring and how to index them right.
Also, there is also a top and bottom of the spring. The top will be flatter than the other end, you can tell the difference.
