Problem with new ignition wires?

I just bought an '84 Z28 about 3 weeks ago, the guy i bought it from didn't know too much about this car. It has an MSD ignition set up, however, the ignition wires were way too long and got in the way of everything in the engine compartment. so i decided to get shorter wires, now the car runs very rough. went to the store and picked up some dielectric grease and it didn't help at all. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Did you triple check to make sure the wires are going to the correct cylinders (1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2)?

Yea, the wires are on corectly. when we took the original wires off we took them off and put the new ones on one at a time so we could be positive that the new ones went on right. could it have something to do with the timing?

I see...well I don't know too much about timing but I do know that if it's off she ain't gonna run right. So yea, check that. It definitely sounds ignition related.

If you have a timing light laying around just double check that, it only takes 2 min. If the timing checks out ok check to make sure that all the wires are completely snapped on to the distributor cap, and the spark plugs. I have kicked my self in the *** for that before

Thanks for the help, just picked up the manual for the car, and figured out that a couple of the wires were hooked up to the distributor in the wrong pattern.

Why not just cut down the long wires? It would have saved ya $40.
