problem with my 82 with tpi. help needed
did a tpi swap aloooong time ago its out of a 85 tpi i believe.. car just quit running(injectors are not firing) about 2 years ago.. never could figure this out.. just spent all day on it today(im sick of it sitting in my driveway not running lol). i have no power to the injectors at all.. i also put 12 volts to all the injectors to test and it still wont run.. in the last 2 years trying to figure this out ive put computer/fuel pump/ign cntl mod/ had a mechanic( the same mechanic that did the TPI swap) look at and he couldnt figure it out..
i checked the signal going to the computer from the dist.. 1.3 volts while cranking. car will run if i spray starter fluid in. computer has power and is grounded. check engine light is on while key is on.. did kragen give me a bad computer? im stumped on this. it seems like the computer is not pulsing the ground on the injectors, or am i missing something?

put a scanner on it(there is a diag connector, right?), see if the ECM is seeing a RPM signal
if NOT, it might need an ECM, check powers and grounds to it before replacement though

Even if you don't have a scanner tool, you can check what code your ecu is throwing with the paperclip trick.
Bend a paperclip into a U shape, and jump the A and B terminals on your OBD1 ALDL terminal. Those are the top, right most terminals. Then record the amount of times the "check engine" light comes up. It will flash for one series, which is your first didget, pause, and flash another series. So if you get 3 flashes and then 6 flashes, you have a code 36. Simple. It will flash each code 3 times, so wait to see if another one comes up after it. It will let you know its done by coming back to the first one. I think it always flashes a code 12 first to let you know that the diagnostic link is working, so don't fret about that one.
Let us know what codes you get.

Yeah the 12 is normal. Hm, I really can't help anymore without an engine code. Maybe the "service engine" light always comes on when the key is in the accel position? Sorry man.

Did it have the VATS prgrammed out, or does the 85 even have the VATS passkey thing on the key?
You might try posting on www.thirdgen.org tech forum board (although it is down right now for maintenance) but those guys helped me tremendously when I had a TPI.
