Re: Power Tpi!!!!

There is TONS of stuff that goes from a 5.0 to a 5.7. Buy a set of headers interchange and make a differance big time. Consider getting SLP intake runners for the TPI huge differance, pricey but nice. Consider a differant cam. The power is there in the 5.0LB9 you just gotta free it up. My 85 LB9 hangs with and beats 5.7 alot and i dont have alot of money wrapped up in it at all its my budget play car. head over to Thirdgen.org and check it out tons of information on that site.

Re: Power Tpi!!!!

If you are going the spend that kind of money buying runners, why not just change the intake over the Holley Stealthram?

I would get SLP 1 3/4 headers since you are going with a 383 later on. Leave the cam you have till you get the 383 and get a better suited cam (see sig) if you also do the HSR and get AFR heads that are used so you can drop all the stuff out of it and put your fresh stuff that you want in it.

Stroking a 350 doesn't give you a 383. Boring AND Stroking does.

Ugh, for one, why does everyone say that? Yes, it's not the most power effecient system every built, nor is it up to the power standards of today, but when it was new TPI was something to be intimidated by. Did you know you can go 11's with a STOCK tpi system? Yes, anything is possible

To enlighten the original thread starter a bit more; there are lots of things you can do to get some extra power. For one, do a coolant bypass on the TB so you don't have coolant running through it...makes power. Two, port and siamese the plenum, base, and runner, for even better results, get some SLP runners and have those ported. Third, headers and full exhuast, no brainer. Fourth, get into chip burning and datalogging so you know what your engine needs. DO NOT buy an aftermarket performance chip from Jet or Hypertech...for close to the same price you could have all the stuff needed to burn your own chips to obtain optimal power and drivability, not just to up the timing in the spark advance tables like those "other" chips do. Hope this helps

Re: Power Tpi!!!!

It costs about $250 to do the SLP route. Half of what the HSR costs. Not economical unless you ahve to worry about emmissions. If that is the case then go on ebay and try get an Accel Superram.

I never saw the need to get into datalogging and burning chips. When I get my first chip done for $350 and the subsequent ones done for $150, why bother? I don't need to own equipment. I borrow an old laptop and the datalogging software from www.fasterproms.com and send the people the datalogs and they burn me a chip according to the logs. I have got my chip burnt about 5 times since the car was new. You only need to urn an EPROM when you do major mods. How often do you do that?

sure u could, putting heads and cam underneath it so it will make 500 ft/lbs of torque up to 4000 RPM and an insane suspension setup and slicks. but who wants to brag about an intake setup that makes great torque, but chokes HP and looses breath at 5,000? not me.

im not tryin to be a dick,im just expressing how i feel...ive had the TPI on my car and i loved the torque it made, but torque GETS u there and horsepower KEEPS u there and there just wasnt enough keeping me there for my liking.

Not everyone says that. TPIs are great truck manifolds, makes me wonder why GM never used them that way.

Yeah, but why? Think of how much faster you can go with an intake meant for power and not economy/emissions.

Re: Power Tpi!!!!

It is possible to make a pig fly but why?

SR will give you a lot of low end torque and I feel the HSR is a little more up there.
