Why do you want to do it?

How much money do you have to spend? Like hookers, if you got the money, honey, they got the time.

You would have to change the harnesses and gage readouts because it might not work. Not sure but I believe some of the readings come from the ECM. So, ECM and harness are a definate. What are you trying to achieve? I can put a Ford 302 in it but unless I am doing it because my sponsor wants me to, what would be the point of going thru the headaches?

Could that money be better spent on better components for the car or engine?

isnt that the same thing as putting an ls1 in?
and the answer is, yes, you can put the ls1 in
only difference between ls6 and ls1 is i think, cam, heads, and intake manifold

Do they really?

ANd actually Grab the latest issue of Hot Rod, they had a big write up about swapping in a Gen III small block into an 3rd gen. made it sound pretty easy actually. Even more so now sincee third gen resourcsemakes the motor mounts and tranny crossmember for the swap.

When you see an GM engine in a Mustang or a Ford Big Block in a GM car, you will know that it can be done. Almost anything can be done in this realm. Only question is the money and effort.

we all know about the ls1 but the ls6 is a little more difficult. the cpu doesn't transplant as well so you have alot more work to do around the sensors if you use anything remotely stock on the car. you will also need to change certain things that won't allow them to fit because of the vette parts. you'll need a few of the ls1 pieces for this.

I'd rather do an LS1 crate to save money initially and then go to a MUCH bigger camshaft and an LS6 intake+headers, etc. It would MOVE nicely

much better idea. just like denny said, you could do the cam swap and all the other little trick ideas and just program the cpu rather then dealing with all the headaches the real ls6 will bring. it isn't worth it.

It might be more feasable to get an aluminum dart block and build a motor from it. At least that would bolt right in. I know someone put a LS1 into a white z28 and posted it all on the net. But I think he had to notch and weld on the k member to get the accessories to fit right. I guess you could use a tubular K member and a set of custom brackets for the accessories. Too much hassle for me. If nothing else, a GMPP HT383 with a different cam and the SD TPI base; should work just as good if not a little better than the LS1/6. You could use the stock ecm and brackets and accessories. Just a thought.

Okay I have an LS1 3rd gen...So far including the cost of the car, new engine and trans, parts, Currie 9inch (used), springs, full supension, Baer brakes, etc everything on this car! The cost has been $13,500 and I have done all the work. Wiring harness was done be Speartech and mounts by thirdgenresource. My car is smog legal in the state of California too. It has 98 gas tank, and all the OBD2 stuff. The car is very driveable, fun to be in, better mileage, 2x the power and the engine is stock still, etc etc...Also the only thing I have to notch was the k-member for A/C but I haven't gotten new lines for it yet. I didn't have to cut the dog house for the coil packs or any of that. More of your questions awnsered at- http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...5&pagenumber=1

My car pics-
