Talking a possible new purchase

ok, i've been recently try to find a new car....

i stumbled upon 2 different cars..
here's the skinny on the 2:
'88 camaro...
350 auto
flowmaster exhaust
new brakes new tires...
*70000 (* this is because we don't know if it's actually 170000 or just 70000)
news body work, paint and a new hood....
1000 /bo

or....
198* trans am
403 auto
new brakes new tires
interior stripped, racing seats
cowl. hood
comes with 3 trannies and 2 engines...
2000

now, a few questions.....
today i drove the '88 camaro, it was smooth, very tight...started right up, sounds awesome, everything is great running wise...has had some tranny mod...great car...just needs body work...
1- was it possible for the 88 camaro, to have a 350 from the factory?
2- give me basic specs like hp,torque...mpg? that kinda thing
3- how much would it cost to buy.....cowl. hood? headlight(highbeam)? random taillight pieces(the colored plastic parts)?
4- would this car be worth to buy, and owe my dad around 700$$

and 2nd...........................
the 403 hotrod...
now, i know this is crazy for a 17 yr/o to buy something like this, when he has a lead foot ....but i'm really interested in this

1- estimates for mpg?
2- possible hp?
3- is it worth to keep for mechanical purposes?
4- anything else?

after driving the 88 today, i'm really interested in buy one....preferred with a 305-350.......i just didn't like the really stiff suspension... i know there are ways to adjust that...so,
hey, if anyone has any useful information on how to go about finding a winner...let me know, i know one kid who does the camaro thing...so i do have a little help....anything else would be useful

thnx, guys and gals

Welcome, to camaroz28.com

WOW, that is a hell off a post for the first one! I tend to lean toward the small block chevy engines (305,350,400) because I am very familiar with them inside and out. Plus the majority of parts interchange and are easy to find. Are these engines the originals? DO NOT BUY THEM UNTIL YOU KNOW! Get the VIN's run them and also get the RPO codes, this way you know EXACTLY what the car came with stock. Yes, it is possible for a 88 Camaro to have a 350, but is it original is the question? Look, under the hood, does it have TPI (tuned port injection)? I take it the Firebird is an 1981, as to that is the last year of the 403, I believe. Neither engines are probably putting more than 250HP out, Unless they are really built! If your looking for a project, sounds like the Firebird is the way to go. Much more engine bay room! Otherwise get the camaro, and work on it. There is no problem getting parts for it, 3rd gen parts are everywhere! Watch your insurance as well!!! Well, I am tired of typing, so hope I helped some!

well, i looked at the camaro....i really really liked the way it felt when i stomped on the gas....beats the zx2 and the electra i've been driving...

but unfortunately, before i could call the guy back about buying it, he sold it..i was really thinking about it, just for a summer ride...it would have been sweet...

as for the transam, i really don't think i'll be trying to buy it...

well, i'm now looking for a 80's camaro, with a prefered 350...or an 80's monte carlo....

Thnx partner

Eric
