Posi Question

Do all Camaro's have posi? Becuase I saw this kid the other day, didn't know who it was, but he was driving a camaro z28, prolly around a 90 or so, and he did a break torque, and only one tire was spinning...I thought all camaro's have posi, and all the camaro burnouts i've seen, both tires spin.

mine will leave only a peg leg on the right side when i stomp on the gas or do a power brake, unless my left side is in sand or something and the right side on pavement. but i dont think all camaros are posi and if you're talking about the new 4th gens then they come stock with limited slips...

one tire spinning, means the clutches in the posi itself are worn, mine used to leave 2 nice tire marks, no only spins one tire , witch as we speak is getting the rear rebuilt as we speak.

so you mean to say that all camaros including the third gens had posi's but they've just worn out. well that doesn't help much since ill need a new diff anyways if the old one's worn out...

well up here in the far north, everybody calls it a brake torque, or a brake stand...usually a brake torque....I've never heard of the term POWER BRAKING...I guess its just a matter of region in the country.

Not all F-bodies have posi. Of those that do, the posi might be in need of a rebuild. So, just because it is spinning a wheel only, doesn't mean it doesn't have a posi. It mean it doesn't have a working posi because the posi might be broken. If the old one is worn, change it with torsen or aurburn.

A Limited Slip was NOT standard on any 3rd/4th gen cars. It was a option (RPO G80) but required with some other options, and NEVER was standard equipment. Also two marks on the pavement is not a very good indication of a limited Slip. If you want to know if your car has one pull the cover and check, or see if it came with RPO G80. It is possible it is shot because previous owners were also doing to many burnouts, This is not what it was design for.

Standard on ALL 3rd and 4th generation 5.7L cars.

75-80% of the 82-02 Camaro and Firebird cars did not come with a limited slip differential. It was an option (exceptions being listed above), and usually only found on the higher output cars. Considering that an overwhelming amount of the 3rd gen cars were low output 305s and V6s, and roughly 65% of all 4th gens are V6s, that makes for a lot of open rear cars!

Burnouts and hard straight line acceleration don't hurt a limited slip at all. Its the turns under power and burnouts on two different surfaces (ex. RR tire on wet pavement and LR tire on dry pavement) that eat them up.

It still was a ( RPO G80) option that may have been required but the original owners paid for it.

It all depends what rear you have now 10-bolt/9-bolt and if its a 2 or 3 series carrier and again how much money you have. Parts and Labor are not cheap and this is not your average DIY job. Your best bet would be to swap a complete rear end if you can find one that fits your needs.
